Calcium-based counters such as marble, onyx, and travertine etch and stain very easily. A quick wipe may be even to slow to stop the etching process. Liquid sealers rub away and cannot prevent this chemical reaction from occurring. Counter Shield Overlay stops acids from contacting the stone there by protecting the surface underneath.
Yes and No. The color of your stone will not change. CSO is a clear gloss or matte polyester surface film made to compliment and enhance your stone color. CSO will change the inconsistent look of your stone surface to a more smooth consistency when viewing from a low viewing angle near the stone surface. Blotchy patches from past polishing service will disappear and your stone surface will appear like-new again.
CSO has a scratch-resistant coating that can withstand the abrasion of up to 0000 steel wool pad, but it is by no means scratch-proof. CSO will act as a sacrificial barrier protecting your stone from impact, gouges, scratching, and knife cuts. CSO will even hold up to 400°F.
We suggest sticking felt pads to heavier decorative objects placed upon the coated counter. Using cutting boards when cooking and baking is also recommended. Hot items should be placed on trivets or cooling pads to preserve the longevity of CSO.
Both CSO Gloss and Stain can conceal light etching damage after application, however, for like-new results a stone repair contractor should be hired to eliminate the existing etching damage. CSO will thoroughly protect the stone from this point on, eliminating the need for future re-polishing.
CSO materials have an expected life expectancy of over ten years. Comparing the cost of repeat polishing services over this time period, say 5-7 times in ten years. The application of CSO will be the equivalent cost of 1.5 service visits. The remaining service visits are not required; thereby saving you on repairs, aggravation from unsightly surface damage, and stress during your next family gathering. CSO makes your counters maintenance-free.
