Solar control window film technologies make a difference

ALL SOLAR CONTROL FILMS BLOCK OUT 99.9% ULTRAVIOLET SUNLIGHT

UV Clear Window Films

Clear UV-blocking window films are made to block out up to 99.9% of the entering ultra-violet sunlight passing through the material. This will reduce the sun's fading effect on interior furnishings by as much as 50%. Reducing visible glare and radiant infrared sunlight must also be addressed (if sunlight is entering the room) by using a darker version of window film to maximize fade protection. This film option does NOT block out glare or heat.

Metal-based Window Films ($)

Solar window film are constructed in layers of polyester films. One or two of these layers are coated with metal ions so thin that we can see through the layer. The metal layer directly influences the performance, reflective appearance, and to some extent the color of the final product. Metal-based films are the more economical form of solar control window film.

Nano-ceramic Window Films ($$)

Titanium Nitride (TiN) is a very hard ceramic material made from a metallic element (Titanium) and a non-metallic element (Nitride). A nano-ceramic coating of TiN is deposited onto a polyester inner-layer of window film. Ceramic window film surpasses the characteristics of a metal-based solar window film WITHOUT the reflective appearance on either side of the film. Ceramic window films are available in light to dark shades. It is recommended to stay in the medium tone range for non-tempered insulated glass units to avoid thermal breaks.

Spectra-Selective Window Films ($$$)

Silver and gold metals impregnate the inner-layer of these window films. These metals are able to almost double the heat rejecting performance of the solar film when compared to their less expensive metal-based counterparts. Lighter tones are able to make a seating area much more comfortable without blocking the view in or out. This window film technology is perfect for lounges and restaurant booths. These films do need to have an edge sealant applied to protect the metals in the product from environmental factors.
